大学院:第三科目の第一課題の公開します

大学院に入学して、もうすぐ一年。第三科目に突入しました。

大学院進学に迷われている方のために何かヒントになればいいなというのと、通信の大学院って何しているの?とよく聞かれていたので、その参考としても課題を公開してみることにしました。下記のような課題に取り組んでいます。

Q: Find a gallery near you and analyse it using some of the ideas in the readings and the list of characteristics included above. A number of case studies have been included below in order to help you with this activity (from text book of Learning & Visitor Studies in Museums and Galleries)

 

A: 

This museum, Kyoto HBS Museum, is located in Kyoto, Japan. The special exhibition named ‘Brazil and Buddhism: The most far away country from Japan’, celebrated the World Cup in Brazil and introduced the historical relationship between Brazil and Japan, especially how first Japanese migration landed to Brazil and the coffee plantings, moreover, there are some facts related to soccer. Some good points and bad ones will be indicated below.

The exhibition was very open and welcomed for adult learners like myself. It reflected on the well-edited videos and texts. An opening video clearly explained the theme of this exhibition and why this is important topic. Not only the video but there are also well-edited panels. There was only one idea in each lines, so it was easy to follow. The exhibition taught me kindly about Brazil, the nation itself, the history of soccer, Japanese migration and Buddhism. In addition, not only the exhibition, but also there were chairs and tables beside the exhibition, it can be called reflection space. Since this exhibition has related to the subject of coffee, the museum staff even brought me and my friend a cup of coffee. This space and coffee lead us have a time to chat about what we have been seeing.

On the other hand, the exhibition was not enough concerned on family visiting. For example, panels seemed difficult for elementary school children or under. The height was too high and, especially family group would be lost their attentions, even it was a well-referenced and good writing. Additionally, there were not enough hands-on experiences. Although they picked soccer and coffee up as one of the friendly topics, they seemed that they did not put some efforts to think about some family-friendly ideas such as smelling coffee beans, allowing the touching the soccer balls. They only open for daytime, and it was a free entry. They might target for wrong audience.

The exhibition would be mainly used by adult leaners such as university students, junior high school and high school teachers and senior learners. However, they might want to consider their opening hours and right targeted audience.
